"car comme Manon"

Manon a aperçu des petites voitures dans la salle d'attente au sixième étage et a dit : "car comme Manon". Récemment, nous nous apercevons qu'elle commence à parler en petites phrases. C'est pas mal plus intéressant que les "beep beep" de l'insufflator de la NICU !

Tout est allé très bien lors de sa visite à Halifax vendredi. Manon n'a pas besoin de porter sa "patch", mais elle devra retourner à l'IWK dans un mois pour revérifier ses yeux. Au "Heart Centre" c'était la même chose : rien à s'inquiéter. Sa cicatrice continue de guérir naturellement et le cardiologue (qui, je crois, est resté au travail tout simplement pour nous autres - même sans rendez-vous officiel) était très satisfait de sa couleur et de sa santé.

Nous avons visité un petit garçon qui était au PICU en octobre au même temps que Manon. Ça fait depuis ce temps-là qu'il est à l'IWK et il doit rester encore jusqu'à sa prochaine opération en mars. Ça nous fait voir à quel point nous avons été chanceux.

Maxime était venu lui aussi pour ses yeux, mais ils ont jugé qu'il progresse normalement et donc il n'a pas besoin de retourner avant plus tard.

C'était un peu comme une rencontre parent-maître à propos d'un élève qui réussi à l'école : "rienque des bounnes chouses à dire !"

Manon spotted a toy car like the one we have at home in the waiting room on the sixth floor and said, "car comme Manon". Recently, we've noticed she has started using small sentences - a very positive development... and much more fun than the constant beeping of the NICU respirators !

Everything went well on our Halifax trip on Friday. Manon doesn't need to wear her patch for a while, but she will be required to go back to the IWK in a month for another checkup. At the Heart Centre it was more of the same : nothing to worry about. Her scar continues to heal normally and her cardiologist (who I believe stayed at work just to peek at Manon for us, even though we didn't have an official appointment) is still satisfied with her color and her overall health.

We visited a little boy who was in the PICU in October when Manon spent time there. He has been at the IWK since then, and needs to stay until his next operation in March. It makes us realize how lucky we have been.

Maxime also made the trip to check his eyes, but he is progressing normally and he will not need to accompany Manon in March.

It was a lot like a parent-teacher meeting about a student who is excelling in class : only good things to report !

La princesse au petit pois

Nous retournons à Halifax vendredi. Maxime et Manon iront pour faire vérifier leurs yeux.

Manon visitera brièvement le "Heart Centre" pour montrer sa cicatrice. Elle a du tissue sous la coupure qui forme des petites bosses. Même que ce n'est pas anormal, il faut aussi bien le faire voir, vu qu'on sera dans l'édifice.

Manon a contracté le rhume de Maxime. Elle tousse, se mouche et dort même moins que d'habitude. Puisqu'elle agit comme la princesse au petit pois, j'ai jugé à propos d'inclure une photo de Manon vêtue en princesse.

We return to Halifax on Friday. Maxime and Manon will have their eyes checked.

Manon will also make a brief visit to the Heart Centre to have her chest examined. Scar tissue has built up under her cut and tiny lumps have appeared. There is no reason to be alarmed, as this is not unusual, but since we're in the building, we might as well drop in for a peek.

Manon picked up Maxime's cold. She's coughing, blowing her nose, and sleeping even less than usual. Since she's acting like the princess and the pea, I figured I might as well include a picture of Manon, posing as a princess.
