Same old...

Rien trop a changé depuis quelques semaines. Manon est toujours à l'IWK et le fluide persiste. On la nourrit grâce à son IV depuis près de trois semaines et cela aide. Mais il y en a encore trop pour enlever le tube de son ventre.

Certains prédisent que Manon sera à Halifax pour Noël. Un cardiologue pense qu'elle sera assez bien pour revenir à la maison... mais cet automne n'a pas été facile. Donc, je ne suis pas trop confiant qu'elle sera chez-elle pour les fêtes.

Je monte à Halifax demain matin. Ça fait trop longtemps depuis ma dernière visite et elle me manque beaucoup. Je dois avouer que le mois de novembre a été long et il est bien possible que décembre le sera aussi.

Nothing much has changed in the last two weeks. Manon is still at the IWK and the drainage continues. She is being fed through her IV since almost three weeks ago, and though it is helping, there is still too much drainage to remove the chest tube.

Some are predicting Manon will be in Halifax for Christmas. One of the cardiologists thinks she will be home. This fall has been difficult, so am unfortunately not confident she will be out of the hospital for the holidays.

I am leaving for Halifax tomorrow. It has been too long since my last visit and I miss her terribly. November has been a very long month, and I fear December will be no different.

Elle mange

Manon s'alimentait (pendant cinq jours) uniquement à partir d'un IV dans son bras pour donner un genre de repos à son système digestif en espérant que cela allait aider avec le fluide en excès.

Depuis lundi, les fluides ne s'accumulent pas trop. En effet, la situation s'est tellement améliorée que Manon peut maintenant manger de nouveau. Donc, elle mangera un peu plus à chaque jour, respectant la diète d'autrefois.

Cependant, le tube restera pour un bout de temps. Inutile de l'enlever trop tôt et d'avoir besoin de le remettre une quatrième fois.

En gros, c'est positif qu'elle mange et que le "drainage" est sous contrôle. Mais il est encore trop tôt à prédire ce que cela va vouloir dire pour la résolution de ses troubles.

Manon was fed though her IV only for five days hoping the "break" to her digestive system would help with her fluid build up.

Since Monday, she has drained very little, so the have decided to allow her to eat foods on her diet menu to see if she can handle it. She will eat a bit more each day and they will monitor her progress.

The chest tube will remain in place for a while. It is counter productive to remove and reinsert it continually.

It is a positive sign that she is draining less and eating more. But it is far too early to predict her prognosis yet and if this lack of drainage will continue.

Long haul

Manon est de retour à l'IWK depuis jeudi matin. Pour le moment, elle ne mange pas (elle a un IV) dans l'espérence que si l'on évite de la nourriture dans son ventre que le fluide sera limité.

Personne ne peut prédire quand elle va cesser de "drainer", ils peuvent juste nous dire qu'un jour nous y serons. Donc, elle est probablement ici pas mal longtemps...

Manon is back at the IWK since Thursday morning. This weekend, she will have nothing to drink or eat. The hope is that giving her stomach a break will help with the excess fluid.

No one can be sure when the drainage will stop : they can only say that one day it will all be over. Is it probable Manon will be here for quite some time...
