Waiting with friends

Depuis notre arrivée ici mercredi matin, nous avons eu la chance de revoir plusieurs des personnes clés au développement de Manon et de Maxime. J'en ai parlé déjà, il y a quelques jours.

En particulier, il était intéressant de revoir les infirmières de la NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) qui ont soigné nos bébés, pendant tant d'heures. Ces individus "travaillent" à la NICU, mais ce qu'elles font est bien plus qu'un travail. Elles sont pasionnées de s'assurer que des bébés ont tout ce qu'il faut pour bien grandir. C'est grâce à elles, surtout, que nos bébés sont revenus à la maison sains et saufs et c'était bon de les revoir.

Et donc, après deux jours de redécouvrir nos amis de la NICU, nous attendons le cardiologue qui nous dira si ou non nous pouvons retourner à la maison demain. Il examinera les résultats des tests de cet après-midi et fera une décision. Toutes les indices pointent vers mardi matin.

Since our arrival here on Wednesday morning, we've had the pleasure of talking to so many of the key players in Manon's and Maxime's newborn successes. In fact, I have already spoken of this briefly in an earlier post.

In particular, it was great to see the nurses from the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) who cared for our twins for hours and hours. Officially, they "work" in the NICU, but what they actually do is much, much more than "just work". They are passionate about caring for these babies and about giving them the tools they need to grow. It is mostly thanks to them that our babies were sent home safe and sound.

And so, after two days of rekindling NICU friendships, we await the cardiologist's visit. After reviewing the results of this afternoon's tests, he will decide if we are indeed heading home soon. All of the early evidence seems to be pointing towards Tuesday morning.
